BOOK REVIEW: Can Real Talk Kim REALLY help us get "Unstuck"

 Good Afternoon, Loves! 💓

I trust that everyone is having a WONDERFUL weekend hopefully full of fun, rest, getting your stuff together or whatever exactly it is that you need. I know I personally needed the rest, because these past couple of weeks have been CrAzY. However, I've laid in bed watching murder mysteries and finished reading a book that I'd LOVE to share my opinion with you all on.

*Disclaimer: the book we are reviewing is of Christian-based, self-help genre. As I identify as a follower of Christ, please note that we respect all cultures, creeds and religions on this platform and we hold our followers to the same standard as well. Without further adieu, let's dive in:

About the Author

Meet Pastor Kimberly Jones or you may know her as @realtalkkim according to her Social Media Handles. If you love reality TV as much as I do, you may recognize her from Preachers of Atlanta. Kim is presently a Sr. Pastor at a church in Fayetteville, GA, while keeping up with a ton of media appearances, motivational speaking engagements, business ventures while juggling being a mother and wife. Total. Super. Woman. She is funny, witty and completely relatable. I appreciate Kim's ability to use her past pain as a driving force to push people away from their shame and towards their purpose. Her passion is definitely palpable, and her talent to deliver the Word of the Lord is simply exceptional. Whether you were raised in a Christian Church your entire life, or dabbling into the religion for the first time, Kim has a unique way to connect and meet with others where they are at and bring them closer to God, while keeping His name and glory at the forefront.

Unstuck - Synopsis

I think it's worth mentioning first that this book is intended to serve as a 90-day devotional, (so 90 chapters and for you to complete a chapter a day) which includes a bible verse, encouragement/relatable story time and then closes out with a daily prayer. If you are ANYTHING like me and as my brain doesn't work like that when I have a book in front of me, I read a few chapters a day, and finished this in about 30 days instead. (Which is totally fine, too)

Overall, this book's main theme is to serve as a guide path for you not to only move on with your life, but to move forward in a positive direction. Again, regardless what you believe, it's still great advice. No one should aspire to be stuck in a pattern of misery, self-destructive behavior, or other negative cycles. That being said, you won't sit down, read this book and be cured all of a sudden, however, I do believe that it fosters a healthy message, that no matter what you're going through... you have a gentle reminder in this text that IT'S ALL GOING TO BE OKAY

Another huge take away in this book, is to be accountable for yourself, acknowledge the part you have played in your "stuck state" and take action! It shouldn't take someone else to tell us this, but we need to hear it. Sometimes we can get so enamored by that broken record in our head that is keeping us stuck, sick, crazy or simply breaking us down. Listening or acknowledging that inner critic breeds insecurity which is the catalyst of derailing us from our life's missions, goals, dreams, wants or, most importantly, purpose.

I will say I noticed a huge shift in my perspective and mood when I completed my reading of this book before bed, in a more positive demeanor. This book also gave the importance of growth, examples of boundaries to set and hit the nail on the head of some feelings I was experiencing, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. It was definitely validating to know that Kim has been in my shoes and I wasn't the only crazy one! LOL I am trying to share enough, without going into too much detail to spoil it for those who are interested in reading as well.

Rating

I give this a 4.2/5 on the panache Scale. I believe the overall message, rhythm/flow, and the concept is definitely on a higher scale. Compared to the likes of TD Jakes, Steven Furtick, Christine Caine, and other heavy weight contenders in the Christian-genre space, I PERSONALLY find Kim more relatable to me as a woman and easier to understand. She has a way to set analogies for complex concepts of the Bible and able to translate to modern-times, without losing sight of the message.

In conclusion, to answer our title question - can REAL TALK KIM really help us get "Unstuck"...? The answer, of course, she can help us realize we do have a problem(s), and offer us beautiful words of inspiration, hope, encouragement and even relate to us that she has "been there, done that", but it's ALWAYS on us to heal and constantly improve ourselves.
